Fortnite’s annual Halloween event, Fortnitemares, is set to be scarier than ever in 2024, as two horror legends—Leatherface and Billy the Puppet—make their official debut in Epic Games' popular digital universe. Both characters are among the most iconic horror movie villains, with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Saw franchises boasting multiple sequels, spin-offs, and even their own video games. Soon, Fortnite players will have the chance to embody these chilling characters, as teased by Epic Games in the lead-up to the highly anticipated Halloween event.

Although the next Fortnite season is still a ways off, fans can look forward to Fortnitemares, which rolls out each October with spooky new in-game content. The event traditionally includes new weapons, skins, and challenges, and collaboration skins are always the centerpiece of the limited-time celebration. This year is no different, with Leatherface and Billy the Puppet taking the spotlight.

While Fortnitemares hasn’t been officially confirmed by Epic Games yet, a newly revealed loading screen strongly hints at what’s to come. The key art features Billy the Puppet from the Saw series front and center, with Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre lurking ominously in the background. Fortnite is no stranger to creepy skins and collaborations with R-rated horror franchises, having previously introduced Michael Myers and the Xenomorph from Alien. However, Leatherface and Billy are arguably some of the most gruesome characters to be added, making this year’s event especially terrifying.

In addition to the iconic horror villains, the new artwork teases several other exciting skins and items. Players will notice a purple version of Guff, a Halloween twist on Red Knight, a new Lexa, and a spooky take on Marshmello. While the exact date of the event hasn’t been confirmed, rumors suggest it could begin on October 15, in line with Fortnite’s typical Tuesday update schedule.

Collaborations have become a major part of Fortnite’s identity, with the game recently launching a collection of skins based on The Incredibles from Disney Pixar. These were released in the item shop following their announcement during Disney’s D23 fan event, where Disney also revealed more plans to collaborate with Epic Games. As Fortnite’s current Chapter 5, Season 4 update wraps up on November 2, players still have time to complete their Battle Pass before the game’s Halloween festivities kick off.
