The Until Dawn remake currently has "Mixed" reviews on Steam, with many PC gamers unhappy with the game. The original, released on PS4 in 2015, received mostly positive reviews at the time. Essentially an interactive horror movie, the original Until Dawn put Supermassive Games on the map and laid the groundwork for the studio's future titles.
Until Dawn is still remembered as one of the best horror games on PS4. With Sony bringing its games to PC, a PC port of Until Dawn seemed inevitable. However, instead of simply porting the original game to PC, Sony decided to move forward with a remake, with Ballistic Moon at the helm. Unfortunately, the remake has not met fan expectations, especially among PC players, who have voiced their dissatisfaction on Steam.

Currently, the Until Dawn remake has "Mixed" reviews on Steam. Some of the negative feedback stems from the requirement of having a PSN account to play, while other complaints focus on performance issues. Others are disappointed by changes to the game's soundtrack, feeling that the remake fails to capture the same atmosphere as the original. Nonetheless, there are also positive reviews, with some praising the graphics and the fact that the game is finally available on platforms other than PlayStation.
The Until Dawn remake makes some changes, but overall it remains largely similar to the 2015 version in terms of story and gameplay. Given how closely the remake mirrors the original, many questioned the need for it prior to release, though few expected it to be received worse than its predecessor.
Ballistic Moon and Sony still have the opportunity to address some of the complaints regarding the remake. The performance issues highlighted in some negative Steam reviews can be fixed with future updates. However, other aspects, such as the soundtrack, are unlikely to be altered. It is improbable that the original soundtrack will be reinstated, and fans should not expect Sony to change its stance on the PSN requirement. All future PlayStation games on PC are expected to have this requirement, so Steam users will need to come to terms with it if they want to play Sony’s titles on PC. Still, disgruntled fans will likely continue to use Steam reviews to voice their dissatisfaction about the requirement.
