It has been confirmed that the late Lance Riddick will be replaced as the voice of Sylens in LEGO Horizon Adventures. Sylens was a pivotal character in the two games that inspired LEGO Horizon Adventures, serving as a reluctant and enigmatic ally to Aloy while pursuing his own agenda behind the scenes. Riddick's performance gave Sylens a cerebral and sometimes sinister tone, making players (and Aloy) question his trustworthiness as he helped uncover the many mysteries within the world of Horizon.

Tragically, Lance Riddick passed away in March 2023 at the age of 60 due to coronary artery disease and atherosclerotic heart disease. Fans of his work in both the Horizon games and Destiny 2 paid tribute to him through special in-game events and commemorative artwork. Guerrilla Games also included a homage to Riddick in the Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC. While Keith David was subsequently cast to replace Riddick as Commander Zavala in Destiny 2, the fate of Sylens in future Horizon titles remained uncertain.

That uncertainty has now been resolved for LEGO Horizon Adventures. Guerrilla Games Senior World Artist Lucas Bolt recently confirmed to IGN that Sylens will have a new voice actor for the upcoming title, although he did not disclose who would be stepping into the iconic role. Bolt expressed that the team still misses Riddick, who “wonderfully portrayed the essential character of Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.”

Given the character's significance to the ongoing Horizon storyline, Riddick's passing made recasting Sylens inevitable. Some players may have expected Guerrilla Games and Studio Gobo to recycle dialogue from previous games for LEGO Horizon Adventures, which retells the story of the original Horizon Zero Dawn in the family-friendly style typical of Traveler’s Tales’ LEGO titles. Riddick’s portrayal of Sylens in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West will be a tough act to follow for many fans. It remains unclear if the new voice actor for Sylens in LEGO Horizon Adventures will continue in the role for future games, but it is certainly a possibility. The cliffhanger ending of Horizon Forbidden West leaves the door open for a potential Horizon 3, and Guerrilla Games is currently developing a live-service Horizon Online multiplayer game.
