Dragon's Dogma 2 has received a new patch across all platforms, finally allowing players to choose between prioritizing graphics or performance. Following the game's launch, players reported FPS drops, particularly on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and this update aims to enhance performance for those seeking higher frame rates.
Released in March of this year, Dragon's Dogma 2 achieved both commercial and critical success but faced its share of controversies, including microtransactions, frame rate problems, and features that resulted in the disappearance of NPCs from entire cities. Capcom has been proactive in addressing these issues, continually releasing updates to improve the gameplay experience, including the recent introduction of a Casual Mode to ease travel distances.
While previous updates enhanced performance for PC users, the October patch extends these improvements to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players. The update introduces options to "Prioritize Graphics" or "Prioritize Performance," delivering the long-awaited feature that boosts the game's frame rate. Capcom had committed to improving frame rates for Dragon's Dogma 2 on consoles, and this patch fulfills that promise.

Accompanying the update, Capcom provided a chart outlining the target resolutions and frame rates for each mode across platforms. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, the game runs at a rendering resolution of 1728p in performance mode, achieving frame rates between 50 and 60 FPS. In graphics mode, the resolution increases to 2160p (4K), with frame rates ranging from 30 to 40 FPS. Performance on Steam varies based on hardware and settings, but PCs generally run Dragon's Dogma 2 at higher frame rates than consoles.
Interestingly, the Xbox Series S can output a 4K resolution, yet its rendering remains at 1440p in both modes. On this budget console, performance mode yields FPS between 35 and 40, while graphics mode achieves 30 to 35 FPS. Despite the prior absence of these options, the game’s sales continue to thrive, demonstrating Capcom's commitment to enhancing the experience even months after release.
These updates may also serve as groundwork for potential Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC. While Capcom has not officially announced any expansions, the company has previously surveyed players about their interest in additional content. Given that the first Dragon's Dogma received the Dark Arisen DLC a year post-launch, fans might expect an expansion for the sequel in the first quarter of 2025.
